2 PDMP AND LAB RESULT DATA INTEGRATION
IMPROVING CARE AND REDUCING RISK
A study by John Hopkins University found that 43 percent of people receiving buprenorphine medication filled at least one prescription for opioids, which they presumably consumed or diverted to others.¹
By combining PDMP data and drug testing results into one easy-to-read report, addiction treatment providers have advanced insight into more accurate patient risk levels and who may require more or less monitoring.
3 LOW-LEVEL BUPRENORPHINE TESTING WITH ORAL FLUID
EXCELLENCE IN BUPRENORPHINE TESTING
Ultra-sensitive analytical methods (100x lower than the industry standard) reliably detect buprenorphine in oral fluid specimens, thus avoiding false negative results. Ideal specimen type for addiction medicine because collections are easily observed. A similar ultra-sensitive test in urine for Butrans (transdermal formulation) is available.
4 CORDANT’S NALOXONE AND PRESCRIPTION TAKE-BACK INITIATIVES
PATIENT SAFETY—LEADING THE WAY TO ENDING OUR COUNTRY’S OPIOID EPIDEMIC
Following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Cordant distributes naloxone, a medication that can stop an opioid overdose, to eligible patients based on CDC criteria.
Cordant also recognizes that many of the drugs initially obtained for misuse or abuse are not bought off of the streets but rather taken from a home medicine cabinet. Cordant’s Take-Back Program promotes and provides take-back envelopes for patients to safely dispose of their unused medications, including pain medications and all controlled substances.
5 CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE PHARMACY
LOCKING DOWN YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS
Through our specialized Cordant Pharmacies we safely and securely deliver prescribed medications to your patients.
This convenient service ensures your patients get their medications on time every month without ever having the patient handle the prescription.
The first step in partnering with Cordant for your patients’ prescriptions is knowing about our secure and thorough process. Cordant pharmacists first check the state prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) on every patient.
Because a significant portion of people in addiction treatment programs are being prescribed buprenorphine, many addiction treatment providers understand the importance of knowing whether their patients are taking any additional opioid medications. Our pharmacists use the PDMP data to monitor what prescribed medications patients are filling. If any of the other medications are cause for concern for potential interactions or abuse, the pharmacist will consult with the prescriber prior to filling the current prescription.
To date, more than 115,000 pills—127 pounds—of unused or expired drugs have been collected, helping to prevent the potential for misuse or abuse.
